Crochet

I started crocheting when I was pregnant with my our first son (read my crochet story here). I enjoy trying my hand at more complex patterns now that I have more experience. I love creating unique items that I can give to others and I especially love spoiling my two boys with homemade gifts. Jensen is in the throes of teething and he needed something new he could sink his gums into. I decided to crochet him something that would help ease his pain and relieve those itching gums of his. I came across this crochet teether and fish rattle by One Dog Woof and just HAD to make it!

Goldfish & Bubbles Teether

The pattern calls for Lion Brand’s Bonbon yarn in Beach. I’ve never used this yarn before, but I just love how the colors POP! I had to adjust the pattern for the beads a bit because I didn’t have the correct hook size. I had to “wing it,” but after a few tries, I got it right. I used jingle bells that I had left over  instead of the polymer clay.  I was thrilled to be able to recycle the leftover holiday craft  items I had lying around.

The pattern is very simple to follow and is explained in great detail.She gives you a step by step for each part so you don’t get confused or overwhelmed. Sometimes a project looks more complicated than it really is.  I do suggest you read the WHOLE post through so you know how to put the teether together and attach the fish correctly before you start. That way you don’t have things half way put together the WRONG way and have to take it all apart again…I won’t name any names. ::ahem::

So far, my sweet teething baby LOVES his new toy and has been shaking it, gnawing on it, and dragging it around. The teether is pretty durable and can withstand whatever my little man can dish out. This pattern has become a lifesaver in our household and I’m so thankful that I stumbled across it! It makes the perfect baby shower gift and I know a few friends I could make this for right now. It would even be perfect for a little girl because, let’s be real here, even girls like fishing! The combination of the colorful beads, the feeling of the crochet yarn, the wooden beads, and the fishy rattle will be sure to occupy baby while they relieve their teething woes!
